How to Start a Garden from Scratch

Starting a garden might seem daunting, but with a little planning, anyone can grow their own food or flowers. The secret is to start small and scale up as you gain confidence.

Choose a spot that gets at least six hours of direct sunlight per day. If you lack yard space, containers on a balcony or patio work just as well. Herbs like basil and mint thrive in pots.

Invest in quality soil. Good soil is the foundation of a healthy garden. Mix compost into your native soil or use a high-quality potting mix for containers.

Start with easy crops: tomatoes, lettuce, radishes, and zucchini are forgiving for beginners. Water deeply but less frequently to encourage strong root growth.

Gardening is a journey. Some plants will thrive, some will struggle. Each season teaches you something new.
